Thiago raised the cup of warm sake to drink. The man across from him was a fellow Assassin. He looked to be an older man, but Thiago could tell that the two were roughly the same age.

"It's been a long fight," the man told him, "and it does not look to end soon."

"What do you know about the Templars?"

"They are powerful here. Oda seeks to conquer, and his pets, Toyotomi and Tokugawa, could easily swipe it from under him."

Thiago set down his sake, eager to hear the rest of this man's story.

"They seek the Mirror. I have it. I had to take it from Kato Danzo, but it is safe."

"Who is Kato Danzo?"

"He was an Asashin like us. I asked him to join in return for the Mirror, but he was in Oda's pocket all along."

"A traitor?"

"He has raised his own clan of Templars who fight like us. They differentiate themselves from us by wearing tight black robes."

Thiago took a cautious sip of the sake, "Are they a threat?"

"Kato was one of the best Assassins I have ever seen. Any force he raises will be formidable."

"And how will you help us?"

"How can I not help you? I am Uesugi Kenshin, the Dragon of Echigo. I will give the might of my province to anyone who supports the Order."

"Well, as it stands now, we need to stay hidden here in Nagasaki. We have brothers pouring in from all over the world to assist you and Nagasaki is the best place for us to gather."

"As you do that, I will keep the Mirror safe and the Templars focused on myself."

Au'lani entered the room and saw the two main occupants of the room. She pulled down her hood, probably a novice move but in all honesty Lani wasn't too sure what protocol was. Her father merely sent her here because he was ordered too himself. But her skill in moving through the room quietly, and eavesdropping on their conversation proved that she had been trained in stealth, speed, and agility - the three basic components for any assassin.

"Peace be upon you, brothers," she said in a calm tone, with a slight bow, her thick black hair falling from her hood in tumbles and over her shoulders.

She restrained from asking about the "mirror", "Uesugi Kenshin", and further questioning, "Kato Danzo". Deciding that patience was a virtue and that in time, something would reveal itself.

"I overheard you talking, I've just gotten here," her brown eyes glanced between the two, "is there a war coming?"

Thiago removed his own hood in return, having not noticed that he had left it on. He took a deep swig from his sake before looked back to Kenshin, "Let me handle this, irmao [brother]."

With a sigh, he began, "Nao [No], not coming. It has been here for at least a century. This war is only a battle compared to our struggle against the Templars. Uesugi-san's role is to end the warring between the provinces. My role is to strengthen our Brotherhood's presence here. I helped to establish the city of Nagasaki two years ago as a starting point, but without Uesugi-san's military strength, we are powerless against os Templários [the Templars]."

Kenshin stood up, his posture revealing that of a man aged beyond his years. He seemed to shuffle toward the door, but stopped before he passed Au'lani. "It is the Mirror that they want more than all of the islands in the sea," he told his fellow Assassins, "They will take any measure to obtain it. Once you have made Nagasaki into the city that Thiago has promised, then I will entrust it to you. Please be quick, I do not know how long I can keep them at bay."
He then left without bidding a farewell.

Thiago smiled to his student, "I think we can do it. What about you?"

"Yes, I think we can," she said, but her face didn't look convinced something was obviously still troubling, "Sempai, what exactly is the Mirror? Why do the Templars want it so badly? And if we want it as badly as them, doesn't that mean our quest for power is as bad as them-"

Cutting herself off, she realized what she had just rambled on about and quickly said, "Sorry, I know that not to be true. We're not as cruel as they are- forgive me."

"The Mirror, I am told, is temptation given form. It is a compendium of knowledge which holds the answers to all of our mysteries and can control the minds of men. Uesugi-san says he is careful not to use it, but I suspect he may be lying," Thiago laid prostrate to the floor, "but the Templars want it for power. They seek to control everyone into a paz forçada [forced peace]. Our goal is to keep them from stealing our freedom to choose. Unfortunately, this means we must allow bloodshed to contnue unless the will of the people is to see an end to it. As far as I can see, the world would be better without such a device."

His knees popped when he stood from the floor. "Never be afraid to ask questions," he reassured the novice, "'On bended knee' is not a tenet of our creed. Remember, nothing is true; everything is permitted."

Taking a slight step back to give him room, the young female asked in a low voice, in case there was someone eavesdropping on their question, "Are we going after Uesagi-sempai?" She didn't know if where they were was exactly a safe place or not, so kept her voice low so that only he could hear.

She barely knew him, but she was already associating him with someone of power, someone she should follow without question. Just like she had done to her father, though it seemed with this newer person, she had more free reign to think for herself. She wasn't about to question her ability to think "outside the box" either, and was grateful for the change of pace as she followed him dutifully.

And then as an after thought, she said, "I'm Au'lani Rivers, by the way." Only after she introduced herself, she wondered if she shouldn't have told him her name. What if she had stumbled into the wrong place, and he had merely stolen the Assassin's usual attire and was faking? It was her father's voice scolding her in her own head, but she pushed the thoughts out of the way and couldn't help but trust her Brother.

"Pleased to meat you, Senhorita [Miss] Rivers," he bowed to her like the locals do, "No, I do not expect we will be tracking him. I think he can be trusted not to abuse the Mirror, but I do not think it is safe to keep it in Echigo, where the Templars are looking for it. That is why we need to better establish our Order here."

"How can you be certain he won't abuse that same power," she questioned. It all seemed as though they were merely trusting each other on feelings alone. But then again they had all been taught to uphold the Creed, so who exactly was she to go around and accuse others of such a treason?

But she asked anyways and then proposed another question, "what do we have to do to establish an Order here, I thought we were already here?"

Taking out an envelope written by her father, she wondered if he had been wrong. Maybe she just go back to working out on the farm with him and forget everything that he had taught her. She wouldn't need it anymore if the Order didn't want her. "You can't just leave the order," he had always sad, "I don't understand why I was foolish enough to believe that I could."

"I've gotten to know him for the last two years. He can be trusted. Unfortunately, he is one of our only powerful allies in Nippon. That is to say that he is one of... perhaps tens. We are not strong here. I believe it would be safe to assume that we are not strong in your home, either. In Portugal, I was one of hundreds. Even China, after the Jiajing's purge, is still teeming with Assassins. If we are going to defeat Oda, his troops, and the Shinobi, then we need a better foothold.
"Say, where are you from Senhorita Rivers? Your family name is English, but your given name is different from any name I've heard."

Lani smiled at the common question, "I had an English name, Jessica," she explained, "but when my mother died, my father dropped the first name all together." Her eyes were downcast in sadness and she crossed her arms as though she was cold. She still remembered her mother arguing with her father on her training. Her mother didn't want it, but they had no choice.

Frowning, she finally said, "I think I'm supposed to meet with someone, so they know that I came here for my father. Would you mind pointing me or walking me in the right direction?"

Pulling out the letter that her father had received years ago from the Order demanding him to train Lani, and when she turned 17 to appear before the Order herself to be evaluated. Her father was apparently many other Assassins knew her father, or at least heard of him. Some, when they realized who her father was, expected to step into some large shoes.

"Someone by the name of, 'Mentor'," she said, "Or anyone that could...well, 'evaluate' me."

"Mentor is really a title, but there is one here who only goes by that. If he's not on his rounds, he will be downstairs. Second door to the right. You can't miss him."

Au'lani looked to the stair well and listened to his instructions, she gave a slight bow, "Thank you, brother. I hope to see you again."

With that said, Au'lani followed his instructions and knocked on the door.
