At a Shrine

Post  Masumi on Sat Apr 21, 2012 10:06 am

It’s just a short time,” Masumi protested to the monk. She had been trying to convince him to loan Rangiku the robes of a miko who had recently resigned, hopefully a ploy that would cause any searching enemies to look right past them. “She’ll blend right in, and no one will suspect a thing.” Gesturing to the considerable surface area of Rangiku’s clothing smeared with blood, she added, “Besides, are you just going to let a woman walk around like this?

But the monk proved to be stubborn. “Isn’t preserving life one of your tenants?” He wavered. “What about a trade?” After some negotiation, Masumi agreed to help sweep the halls and later bring by some herbal salve the shrine was low on in exchange for Rangiku’s camouflage. Masumi would have to ask for a couple of days off later to gather herbs for the salve.

(A/N: a miko is a young woman who helps the priests at the shrines, traditionally dressed in a red hakuma and white jacket.)

It took some persuading for Rangiku herself to go along with the plan, and she only reluctantly agreed when she heard Masumi's other idea, which involved blending in amongst the seedier parts of Nagasaki. The robes clearly belonged to a taller woman than Rangiku, but overall workable. “We’ll have to be discreet. The head priest has journeyed away from Nagasaki, and the priest in charge is a real stickler,” Masumi explained to Rangiku as the former combed the latter’s hair to be tied by red ribbon. “I’m guessing we’ll only be here for a few hours. Just help with the cleaning in the west wing, and you should be left alone. Of course, I’ll be close by too,” the former beggar assured. The hair was neatly teased into a style questionably extravagant by miko standards, a subtle reflection of Masumi’s days of assisting in teasing the hair of courtesans into inexplicably complex results. Sighing to herself, Masumi undid her work and aimed for something simpler. Things would be complicated if no one came for them by night fall, but already the house keeper's mind had the beginnings of a new plan.

Inwardly, she was also trying not to panic, for their future would be grim if the shinobi succeeded in killing her family? employers.

At the Assassin Hideout
He was tired of trying to find a way out. He had concluded there were only two ways out of this: he could fight or flee. Either way, he would risk crossing paths with them. He jumped from the rafter and moved with caution.

Elsewhere at the Assassin Hideout
Two more Assassins dead. Below him was a figure covered in blood. He leapt down to strike.

At the brothel
Across the hall stood their opponents. They were old and injured, the Shinobi would see little trouble from them.

Yuzuru pressed himself against a wall. He had heard a loud noise around the corner like someone dropping from a height. Swinging around the corner, he found a lone shinobi trying to sneak away. "You there! Yield or die!"

She heard the almost imperceptible rustle above her, and immediately sidestepped, not a moment too soon as the shinobi crashed to the floor, hidden blade missing her cleanly. she quickly smashed his face with the pommel of her sword, and grabbed his neck, pinning him to the wall.

["YOU DARE USE OUR TECHNIQUES AGAINST US?!"] she screamed in his face, slamming his head against the wall. ["FUCKING TEMPLAR! DIE YOU CHINESE SCUM!"] with that she bashed his face in with her sword until she had no more strength and finally fell to her knees, letting the body fall to the ground with a thump.

Both shinobi lay dead, killed by Thiago and the Mentor. Thiago wiped the sweat from his brow, praying that this was the last of them when he heard a thud. The Mentor had collapsed into a pool of his own blood. Thiago sighed and called to the prostitutes, "Does anyone here know how to clean a wound? I would do it, but he would rather see you if the wakes up."

Thiago himself left for the hideout. He only hoped that everything would still be in its right place and that the shinobi had been cut down before taking it.

Yuzuru was walking out the front when he saw Thiago approaching the hideout. "Finally, you arrive, my friend. Come, we have much to discuss."

"Sim {Yes}, fill me in on everything," Thiago replied. The three shinobi corpses laying before the hideout did nothing to raise his spirits about the situation.

"I am afraid we fell for a trap. Miss Rangiku was merely a ruse to lead us away from our hideout. Shinobi infiltrated our home and killed our brothers and sisters. We have managed to kill the vermin, and take one hostage." He led Thiago down a set of stairs and into a cellar where the shinobi was tied up. "Question him as you please, but I'm afraid we can't let him live any longer than that."

"Our Sensei is among them. I left him in good hands, though. We have irmas stationed at his favorite brothel in case of such a thing. Where is Mei? She cannot be doing well?"

Re: Like a Bull in a Tea Shop

Post  Masumi on Thu Apr 26, 2012 2:55 am

The sky was turning orange, the shadows were growing long, the air started to chill, and foot traffic was starting to disperse. From the shrinking crowds, two women cautiously emerged in front of the tower. Masumi felt enough time had passed to venture toward the den, while Rangiku didn't want to continue masquerading as a miko in the shrine by herself.

They saw the bodies being lined up, and the hooded figures moving in and out of the tower. In on sense, equilibrium was restored. On the other hand, Masumi's muscles already ached as she anticipated the long night ahead of her. It would be awhile before she'd be able to ask for those days off to return the favor she owed to the monk.

The pair of women moved toward the den, Masumi's eyes scanning the bustle of people for Mentor or Lopes; of course, she mused, this was assuming these leaders were still alive. Whoever was in charge would have to decide what was to be done with Rangiku.

"Has anyone seen Lopes-tono or Mentor?" she inquired to passers by, and confirmed that Lopes, at least, was alive, and back at the hide out.

(A/N Rangiku is still in miko garb. Masumi had left Rangiku's original kimono at the shrine for now, and plans to try a few tricks to see if she can get the blood out of that kimono without ruining it.)

"Ah, Masumi, Rangiku. So good to see you are well. Miss Rangiku, your days of informing for us are over, but you will always have the protection of the Asashin. We will restore your shop, assuming you still want to work there after the. . . matança {massacre}. Masumi, you have some cleaning to do."
