A Little Bit of Practice Empty A Little Bit of Practice

Post  Kasai Yuzuru Thu May 10, 2012 8:01 am

Yuzuru took a deep breath, focused, then released his arrow. It struck the target dummy hard in the chest. An lethal shot. Pulling another arrow from the ground in front of him, Yuzuru continued to pepper the dummy with arrows. Every five arrows he would take five steps away from the target before continuing his archery, increasing the difficulty at a gradual pace.

After hitting the target five more time from forty paces, he drew his sword, charged the dummy, and dismembered it in as smooth a motion as he could. His speed was still slower than the assassins, but only a little. He would soon reach their level of agility as long as he kept up his training.

A Little Bit of Practice Empty A gift from Date Masamune

Post  Thiago Lopes Sat May 12, 2012 2:36 pm

Thiago spotted Yuzuru practicing his archery in the courtyard, "Yuzuru, come here. Your Daimyo {lord} has a gift for you."

Yuzuru lowered his yumi and quickly strode over to Thiago. "From Lord Date? What is it?"

"He said it is a Raio {Thunderbolt}. With it, you can do whatever you wish. I would recommend a new sword. The samurai style of fighting requires two hands for your sword. I can help you to achieve the same results while keeping one hand free. Care to learn?"

Yuzuru thought for a moment. A new sword would be nice, however... "One-handed? But where is the power in only one hand? And would that not take away from the length of the sword? Katana are already too short to combat the Templar longswords. Nodachi and kanabo are the only logical weapons, but they are too heavy to wield effectively, let alone one handed."

"People think that power is so important. It is nothing compared to the movement of the blade. You can get more than enough power and control into one arm. Our style is not focused on duels, like the code of Bushido. Rather, we focus on being able to fight many enemies at a time. Your hands are not much good if they are both on the same sword, nao? Besides, you can add some weight to the end to compensate for power, entendeu {understand}?"

Staring at his "thunderbolt", Yuzuru felt a chill run down his spine. "What about the reach? Is it possible to...make the blade longer? Longer than a standard katana?" The wheels were turning. He had his style trained into every bone and muscle in his body, but....maybe he could go against his training, and make something the world has not yet seen.

Yuzuru felt a grin appear on his face. The thought of it filled him with excitement. "There's only one thing, Thiago," he said, turning away. "A thunderbolt would indeed be a powerful weapon to hold. However, a sword is not a mythical power. It's just a servant. They are made to take life and spill blood. They are not given a choice in the matter. I need a servant. One that will stand by my side, even if reluctantly. I will have Tsuito Shiyounin."

"A reluctant servant? Only appropriate that the sword reflect its wielder. Furnish this blade, and I will train you. I look forward to seeing this."

A Little Bit of Practice Empty Monkey see, monkey do

Post  Masumi Sun May 13, 2012 6:06 pm

"That...that was amazing!" Masumi thought out loud. Every assassin was characterized by their own style. Some were fierce, others were subtle, some were fast, and others were deliberate and accurate. The Yuzuru's style was powerful, and his practice session Masumi had spied on she played again and again in her mind. Yes, he was swift with the arrows, but what she really enjoyed was watching him practice with a sword. She grabbed a spoon, trying to copy the samurai's graceful movements- swinging down, drawing back, jabbing, and so on. She was so absorbed in her fantasy, she was startled when her movement was met with abrupt resistance.

She pressed her lips together when she realized she lodged her spoon part way through the melon. Her peripheral vision also alerted the housekeeper to the presence of another- an assassin that looked as if he was convinced the housekeeper was being possessed by a negative kami. Inwardly, Masumi chided herself for acting so childish. She assembled her thoughts long enough to straighten up, trying to look as if she had meant to embed the cooking utensil in the fruit, and ducked out of the kitchen to announce to anyone in the common room, "Good news everyone, we're having melon tonight."
