With that, Masumi pulled out a rolled up blanket, curled up in a shadowed grassy area which helped her blend in with the landscape, and fell asleep promptly. Her dreams were filled with rabbits, thistles, and apples.

The bushes rustled. Thiago responded by arming his crossbow. The bush grew louder as he approached. It was probably an Oni or a bandit. He was really enjoying a peaceful night outside for a change. He gingerly moved the branches out of the way and pointed his weapon.

He relaxed. It was only a fawn. No alarms, just something cute to ignore.

Masumi's Days Off - Page 2 Empty Epilogue

The country side was relaxing, but Masumi was still relieved to be back in Nagasaki. Sure the open road had its perks, but Masumi was growing quite fond of her oni-free home. Her hands smelled like the plants she had been grinding, drying, and otherwise preserving/preparing. The heat of the afternoon was just starting to wear off when she was able to deliver the monk's requested salve. "It wasn't easy to make, so maybe you'd like to make it last?" Masumi suggested, but had a facial expression that said Seriously, make-this-last.

She felt content to spend the last couple of days of her vacation sleeping on the roof, pestering watching the recruits, making secret leaps, and beginning the long over-due process of sewing a new kimono- a lighter weight yukata for the summer months.
